FAQ

Getting Started

Why should I launch a VR escape room?

VR escape rooms are an attractive innovation to add on to your business that allow you to host multiple rooms in a single space. Moreover, there’s no room reset time and no prop repair to worry about.

Players come into the experience with an intuitive understanding of what they need to do, and our software allows them to explore places and challenges not possible with traditional physical rooms. VR escape rooms are not only great for repeat business as you can offer more scenarios in the same space, but they’ll give you a strong competitive edge.

Who can use vrCAVE products?

We work with escape room owners, VR arcades, and family entertainment centres. If you offer location-based entertainment and have a little room, chances are you’re a great fit.

What is required to run a VR escape room?

You need three things: software, hardware, and space.

We currently offer up to six unique software experiences, and can supply the hardware. All you need is an empty room with a minimum of 15′ x 18′ (4.6 m x 5.5 m) open space.

What does a VR escape room cost?

Our packages depend upon your specific situation and needs. Please contact us to get more information. The cost to your customers can be comparable to your traditional escape room pricing, all while providing a strong ROI.

Are demos available?

Yes! Please request a demo by contacting us. We’d love to share a hands-on opportunity for you to see the magic of our VR escape rooms.

What headset is best for my venue/business?

There isn’t one “perfect” headset for everyone — it really depends on your space, budget, and how many players you expect. Backpack-powered PCVR is still available for those who want the absolute highest quality, but many prefer the convenience of standalone wireless headsets, each of which has its own benefits. We’ll walk you through the options and help you pick what makes the most sense for your setup.

How do I choose a VR game supplier?

Think long-term. A good supplier doesn’t just hand you games and disappear — they provide ongoing updates, solid support, and content that keeps players coming back. Look at things like the variety of games, how easy they are to run, and what kind of backup you’ll get if something goes wrong.

What’s the expected return on investment (ROI) for adding VR escape rooms?

Every location is different, but many operators see their investment pay off within the first year. Because overhead is low and demand is strong, VR escape rooms tend to be a profitable add-on. We can share real numbers and examples to help you estimate your own ROI.

Game play

How do VR escape rooms work?

Just as in traditional escape rooms, our VR escape rooms require players to complete some objective within a time limit. In groups of up to four, players walk around in the same physical space and collaborate to solve problems.

We create situations not possible in traditional rooms — a space station with a sweeping view of the Earth, a time machine that requires players solve puzzles across different time periods — but by reaching out with their hands via controllers and manipulating objects and the environment, players progress through the scenario and either succeed or fail.

What VR products are currently available?

vrCAVE currently has 10 unique experiences available for use in any business. See them all and learn more about each by visiting our games page.

How often does vrCAVE make new escape rooms?

We create and release a new addition to our library every year — meaning you’ll regularly have more and more options available for your customers.

Are there safety concerns with VR?

vrCAVE is tried and tested. Our games are designed to be safe and accessible — each game starts with an optional pre-recorded safety demonstration, and our games do not require players to run, jump, or do anything that might put them in harm’s way.

Will my customers experience VR sickness?

Removing the risk of VR motion sickness is a priority for every experience we design. Because our products are designed for free-roam movement, player’s views are in total synchronization with their real-world movements. This is compared to other VR experiences that move the game world around the player while they remain stationary — which can induce motion sickness and nausea.

How should my customers prepare before playing?

There are no special requirements. The headsets will fit over most glasses and will work just fine with contacts. The controls are very simple and intuitive — players walk freely and can reach to interact with objects using intuitive, handheld controllers.

How many people can play at once?

Our escape rooms support 2−5 players. The experiences are designed with collaboration in mind, so while they’re not generally suitable for single players, you can be sure that everyone will be working together excitedly!

Do VR escape rooms reduce overhead compared to physical escape rooms?

Absolutely. With VR, you don’t have to build elaborate sets or constantly repair props. No reset time means you can run more sessions in a day, and your space can host multiple different games without extra build-outs. Your main costs will be hardware upkeep and licensing — usually much lower than maintaining a physical escape room.

How much space do I need per VR escape room?

For a group of 2 – 6 players, a 17′ x 20′ area works best. Bigger spaces with extra buffer feel even better, but that’s the minimum we recommend to keep everything safe and comfortable. If your room isn’t quite that, let us know: there is some flexibility.

How do I train staff for VR escape rooms?

It’s simpler than you might think. Staff need to know how to set players up with the equipment, run the session, and step in if someone needs help. Most of the time, training only takes a few sessions — and we provide guides and resources so your team feels confident quickly.

Tech/ Support

What equipment do I need?

We support two types of VR hardware. There’s the high-performance option of high-end headsets — HTC VIVE / VIVE Pro / Pro 2, and Valve Index — powered by backpack PCs. There’s also the lightweight streamlined experience of the wireless Meta Quest series and VIVE Focus 3. You’ll also need a PC to run the games from.

What headsets does vrCAVE support?

vrCAVE supports a wide variety of headsets including the Meta Quest series, HTC VIVE Focus 3, HTC VIVE / VIVE Pro / Pro 2, and Valve Index.

Please note: Some of our games are only supported on certain headsets, please visit our games page for more info about each game’s compatibility.

How to Safely Maintain, Clean, and Sanitize VR Equipment?

Headsets and controllers should be wiped down after every session. Use disinfectant wipes that are safe for electronics, or disposable covers for the headset face area. Some venues also add UV sanitizing boxes for extra peace of mind. A quick routine like this keeps your gear in good shape and your players comfortable.

What are software update/content update policies?

We release one brand-new VR escape room every year, and in between, we roll out updates that improve performance or add small features. All updates are included with most vrCAVE licenses, so you’ll get everything you need as long as you’re with us.

What are the power/hardware infrastructure requirements?

You’ll need a solid gaming PC, stable internet, and a safe space with enough room for players to move. Most setups run on standard power, so nothing complicated is required. We’ll give you exact specs and setup recommendations to make sure everything runs smoothly.
